Doorknobs and Lollipops

I think people don’t even know what freedom is anymore.  Never knowing something, you just come to understand it in whatever context it has been used in your life.  If I were to hand a young child a doorknob and call it a lollipop, then you could expect this child would know nothing about lollipops as you and I do.  The same with freedom and liberty.  The average persons notion of freedom and liberty has very little to do with what freedom and liberty actually are, or how our founders envisioned it.

  1. …The fact in short is that freedom to be meaningful in an organized society must consist of an amalgam of hierarchy of freedoms and restraints. Charles de Gaulle …Freedom has its life in the hearts the actions the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots it will wither and die. Ambrose Bierce The Devils Dictionary …The patriots blood is the seed of Freedoms tree.
